Goodwood Revival 2017

Huzzah! It’s that time of year again where we all get to dress up and be part of something truly epic! Goodwood Revival is back in all its Harris Tweed glory. I cannot wait to sing in the VIP area again, with its fantastic vintage BBC radio set up and see all the wonderful Goodwood actors, staff and racing drivers once more. Although this year’s event sold out as quickly as it went on sale, you are in with a chance for next years event, so let me entice you with some of last year’s pictures…

Entertaining the evacuee children with a little bit of Gracie Fields.

I had just gotten to the VIP area and was doing ‘once round the room’ saunter, when a waiter turned round, saw the outfit and dropped a jug of orange juice down me by accident. Sticky, but hilarious! Had to use someone’s hair dryer behind the scenes.

The sound effects for the radio shows!

Recreating old radio shows from the original scripts. An absolute hoot!

For one of the VIP areas you had to walk through a 60’s record shop!

Another VIP entrance. Absolutely incredible England football team dressing room, including a mini pitch outside!

My wonderful boys of No.26. Can’t wait to see them again! Andrew Wareing’s 1964 BRM F1 car, P261

The adorable pedal car race. My personal favourite!

They look tough, but they are pussy cats really…

I asked for a strong tea with a tiny splash of milk. The girl Pantone matched it to the beige table cloth…

The gorgeously suave LM and his chum.

Stoneleigh Militaria 2014

Well what a wonderful show! I haven’t been for 6 years, so was surprised to see no entertainment or music at all at the event. Luckily I had an awful lot of exciting and random reunions that filled my time! Rex from War and Peace Revival, Paul from Wartime in the Vale, Dave King and the boys from Military World Magazine where I signed some copies of Issue 16, photographer Lee Parker, Maria and Ashley Elliot with their gorgeous little bundle, a wonderful chap who was on the Berliner journey and more besides!

I purchased a wonderful military bakelite microphone, which I later found doesn’t flipping work, so will have to try and get it fixed and a few other goodies. We really enjoyed the show and it was great to see some familiar faces and we made some new friends too!

For those interested in fashion – The shoes are Red Cross 1940’s and original 40’s silk fully fashioned stockings. The suit is 1940’s with crepe silk lining and has a matching HUGE stole in the same wool with pale pink fox trim (I did not bring it with me). My wonderful blouse is a waffle texture by Heyday Online! The hat is a beautiful 1930’s original with black velvet detailing and the pin on my lapel is tortoise shell and silver inlay with a George V crest (1st World War). The Muff is 1930’s/ 40’s with a zip purse pocket (I know, sooooo handy!!!) and crepe silk interior.

You may just spot me on the double page feature spread in this month’s copy on ‘Alternative Lifestyles’!

A few facts are wrong, so just to clarify a few things…

  • Things in our cottage date back to the 1930’s to the 1940’s. The 3 piece suite is Art Deco as are many of my furnishings and we love collecting WWII memorabilia and clothing!
  • When I was about 11 I was wearing my Grandma’s Victorian boots, high necked blouses and plaid skirts. I was wearing 1950’s clothing from around 2000
  • I was spotted by a local photographer in 2001 and was in full time employment at that point. My Media Studies course was in 1996 after leaving school.
  • My name Kitten Von Mew came into effect in 2001 as a modelling name
  • I met Richard in 2008 whilst he was part of the USO shows, of which I joined as a burlesque entertainer. We did not start dating until late 2010/ early 2011.
  • I do not think there was ‘something so simple and British’ about the 1940’s. I believe it was a time of uniting together, keeping up morale and making do/ getting creative with what you had.

Goodwood Revival 2012 Photos!

Here you go folks! A round up of photos taken mainly by Mr. Mew of the 3 days. I would have included more of him, but he was not happy with his outfit and hat mismatch, so have had to leave some out. Enjoy!

With only 9 days left until the glory of Goodwood Revival yet again zooms it’s way around the track, I thought I would tell you some exciting developments for this year’s show! Revival is far from just classic car racing Catnips, it is a full day of entertainment, vintage and vintage inspired stalls, aircraft displays, famous racing car displays and more!

Goodwood Revival Party 2010 with Kitten and Lord March

This year is especially exciting for me as they are featuring a new entertainments section called Over The Road, which is more early 1940’s inspired than the 1948-1966 areas that are usually on offer! Here you will find the famous Chap Olympiad (Ok, so they are more 20’s/30’s, but they are also a complete hoot and worth watching!) and Mr. B the Gentleman Rhymer who wraps in a King’s English accent over hip hop soundtracks and also pays the banjo splendidly(I will be sneakily trying to catch a glimpse myself as YouTube videos will not quench my thirst for his eclectic rhythm). As well as this there will be other pieces of entertainment in the Victory Street Party, which hosts a variety of stalls, an Earl Grey Tea Shop (yum!) and 2 hilarious eateries/ watering holes named Dig For Victory (think salads and fruit smoothies) and the Spit n Sawdust pub!

I will be there in my RAF corset doing meet and greets and posing for pictures, so please collar me as I walk by for a photo and chat! I hope to see many regular faces as well as new ones and remember to take the opportunity to dress up and join in the fun!

Retro Revival 1940s Event

So Mr. Moo emailed me earlier today and said something on the lines of “Well gee-whizz Mrs Mew, did you see the fabulous image Retro Revival are using on their advertisement of you?”

As I had never heard of the event I went and had a peek…Low and behold it is being organised by my gorgeously purrfect pals at Friends of the 40’s!

I have performed in Manchester and Sheffield, but never Liverpool and Ian and Sam have invited me to make an appearance at the event! I will be performing at Goodwood Revival the weekend before and am determined NOT to get laryngitis this time, so hopefully I will be singing for you at Retro Revival and will pose for photos too! You will see me in my ATS corset along with another vintage outfit (coverage will depend on the weather).

So if you are around the Merseyside area or looking for a 1940’s event more “Up t’ North like”, pop along to this Saturday event!
