Mothers Day Personalised Posters

mothers day personalised poster

Vintage style personalised poster by Kitten von Mew for Findmeagift.com

I was asked by Findmeagift.com to help design some special Mother’s Day posters that could be personalised! Because of my love for vintage and the fashion being someone homed in on sewing, polka dots and vintage styling I created 2 pictures that would be perfect for traditional homes.

The first is a photograph of some of my antique sewing paraphernalia and the label on the far right cotton reel and the bare wooden cotton reel can be personalised with a name and message! The thimble at the front looks as if it is engraved with ‘Happy Mother’s Day’ and this will be changed after 8th March so that any special event can be chosen (e.g. Wedding, Birthday, Anniversary, Valentine’s etc). As you can see, I payed homage to my darling Shona of Heyday Online in this one!

The second poster I designed is not customisable, although the frame that it comes in can be engraved with a message of your choice. I could just picture it in a 40’s living room in an old frame or a vintage kitchen!

So get over to Find Me a Gift and buy a personalised Mother’s Day gift that she can admire for years to come (if I do say so myself…).

Twinwood Festival 2012

So…back from Twinwood and I can safely say that it was even better than last year. I loved the fact they had a new big marquee (The Colonial Club) and although the weather forecast threatened everything from thunder storms to hail, we were very lucky!

I managed to meet up with some of our friends Lola Lamour, Luna Nightingale plus David Burt, Madeleine Brown, Adam Hoffman (Mr Twinwood!) plus Leanna Faulkner (Voted 2nd in the Miss Twinwood competition), Lee Parker, Shona and Twan of Heyday, the Elliots, the girls and boys from Vintage Life and even a lovely lady that I first met on The Berliner trip!

I couldn’t wait to show Shona my Mary dress that I had embroidered with twigs of oak leaves and swallows. It was taken from a 1940’s embroidery pattern that I had found and doctored. It was my first attempt at embroidery and I was proud of my efforts! Shona was wearing one of her beautiful wrap dresses and an original hat!

On the Saturday and Sunday evenings I had performances in the Colonial Club, Casablanca Club and Cafe du Bois. The big marquee was perfect for my Lili Mewleen act and although there were a few technical hitches on the first night, the routine went down very well with the audience and I got super feedback!

In the Casablanca and Cafe du Bois Clubs I did my ATS fan dance with spitfire pasties. The atmosphere was electric in these tiny clubs and it was rather hot in there too! Shame I got poorly with a migraine so missed my last performance of the weekend, but Im so glad I made it through the rest as the audiences were fabulous!

Worryingly he seems to remember Richard too…

We got to see the Glenn Miller Mystery film that I was looking forward to watching in the Tin Hat Club. They had done a very good job in transferring the stage play onto film and I was pleased to see that they had used the same actors too. The fact that it was set in the buildings in Twinwood made it more real and creepy. I could see this being re-made for the big screen for sure!

One thing that completely made me wobbly was the fact that Max Raabe and his orchestra was staying at our hotel! I had a few little chats with the gents and they were lovely and wanted to try and play in England more as they only came over last year. It is amazing to think they have been around for so many years, yet the British vintage market is only just tapping into their talents!

Unfortunately when I was getting ready to go over to the small clubs, they were performing, so I had to sneak out and take a bit of video and a few photos when I could!

So roll on next year! Hope you all had a great time too, I saw soooo many people dressed up and having a good time!

Mad Hatters Hen Party Photos!

On Saturday I had my amazing hen party! We arranged it at Candee’s house and she, Becky and I transformed the living room into an enchanted woodland for the occasion.

Candee’s partner Jacob did an amazing job making cupcakes and coconut macaroons. You would have thought he had a cottage industry going with the amount he managed to make. I felt like swimming through them like Scrooge McDuck and his room of gold coins…

Becky made 4 incredible floor cushions in the shape of leafy hillocks. I nicknamed them ‘My humps, my humps, my leafy fleecy lumps!’ and each had a little ladybird button on it and wonderful detailing. I was amazingly impressed with her craft skills. She also made a huge bag of red tissue roses to adorn the front hedges!

John from The Cake Gallery made the most incredible looking and tasting cake you have ever seen. He made a little version of me, lounging in a sexy Alice costume on a Chaise Lounge! I have never had a professional cake made for me before and this is the best one I have ever clapped eyes or teeth onto! You have to see this guy’s creations, they are brilliant!

Candee did a brilliant job with ordering bits of decor, organising everyone and making the beautiful invites. Each one had a letter from the Mad Hatter and March Hare and was tied with a ribbon and little brass key! I wore the ribbon and key around my wrist at the party!

I made some chocolate and strawberry swirl Angel Delights and banoffee pies served in china cups and saucers, some talking flowers and a tiny door with the help of Mr. Mew! I hand painted wood grain on the front, a keyhole and bunny shape and then aged it. We were so pleased with the finished article and it was suspended on the front door as people entered.

Becky decided to come as the Cheshire Cat…leaving her smile everywhere…Candee had the most amazing Mad Hatter costume and makeup I have ever seen in my life, Jacob was King of Hearts and I was Alice!

I made myself a fascinator in the shape of a cup and saucer with a real spoon sticking out the top and Mama and wide brimmed rose hat with a Rocking Horse Fly stuck to it! She looked like an Edwardian lady and would have fitted right in at Ascot…

Shona van Beers of Heyday Online made the perfect Queen of Hearts and screamed the place down at regular intervals with “WHERE ARE MY TWO FAT BOYS?!” and “OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!!!” She made me laugh so much, it was hilarious!

My 2 friends ‘the Helen’s’ came as Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee with matching bowler hats, braces and black trousers and shirts, Flick came as a Steampunk White Rabbit, Joanna had a fantastic costume with playing cards sewn onto it and my darling Kate was her usual gorgeous self, all the way from Manchester.
