The Craft Fair

kitten von mew crafts stall

We had such a wonderful time at Warwickshire Exhibition Centre last Sunday! It was the first time I had been and I was very impressed with the space and creative table displays. It was hard not to get tempted by some of the goodies on the stalls as I was there to make money not spend it, but still treated myself to a lovely hand knitted top which was a ridiculously good deal.

Along with my pincushion cups and hair clips, Mr Mew had brought along a few of his handmade wooden toys and a couple of light boxes. We had also made some cute bird feeders which proved to be rather popular!

As well as selling our beloved crafts, I also sang some Christmas tunes and vintage songs to get everyone in the mood. I nearly laughed out loud when the most adorable little tot you have ever seen started jigging around like a dashboard hula girl to Santa Claus is Coming to Town! It was quite chilly, but adrenaline kept me reasonably warm for the most part and only my toes seemed to suffer the feeling of loss of life. I wore a wonderful new dress that I am utterly thrilled with, but cannot reveal where I got it as of yet!

In the end I sold 2 pincushion cups (My favourite one (the rabbit in lettuce leaves) and a bird in a nest of pins, a pincushion shoe, 3 pincushion corsages and 3 bird feeders so not bad at all! Next up is a vintage and crafts fair at Hatton Park Hall THIS Sunday (9th Dec) where I will be singing and selling some of my vintage clothing collection! The fun never ends!

Enchanted Woodland Tea Party

Kitten von Mew - Deer Makeup

On Saturday we went to Candee’s Birthday tea party, which was an enchanted woodland theme! I had been planning costumes ever since she invited us and either thought Unicorn or Enchanted Fawn. I went with the latter and Mr. Mew as Mr. Tumnus!

I had bought some gorgeous handmade leather antlers just for the occasion and transformed a cheap angel fancy dress costume into something a little more mythical. I added an autumnal decoration and hair flowers to my headress too!

Richard borrowed a pair of my horns that were made by a lady who created some of the masks for the film Labyrinth and I made him a pair of fur trousers!

The best part of both costumes were…hoof boots! I had had a look online for hoof shoes, but at around £250 a pair I decided to make my own. After a mortifying shopping trip to New Look for some £10 chavvy platform boots (I shudder as I remembering trying them on and gazing at the far lovelier vintage styles that were mocking me from the shelves), I build up the toe in a hoof-like affair with plastic from a rasberry punnet and papermache. After drying, painted the toes with acrylic paint and finished with glittery PVA to protect it.

Meanwhile, I had ordered 2 fabulously furry cushion covers online, which made perfect leg covers for both my boots and Richards! After sticking the tube of fluffy cushion cover fabric around the edges of the shoes, there wasn’t much to do but look ABSOLUTELY AWESOME IN THEM!

My DIY Hoof Boot Stages!

Candee had done a great job with the decor and everyone had given a helping hand with food, so the place looked like the inside of Fanny Craddock’s brain. It was amazing and I was most impressed with Jacob’s hedgehog chocolate cake and the amazing tiered woodland cake below…

Woodland Themed Birthday Cake!

For gifts, we had decided to get creative and whilst Mr. Mew made an amazing light box (Im sure he will post it on his Facebook Page!), I made an Alice in Wonderland pendant out of a Victorian pocket watch case, pewter and copper figures and a little imagination…

I will be doing these on a commission basis too, but Candee got the first one 🙂

Crafty Cats

Lol Cat (made for my friend Paul) and BalooWhilst teacup pincushion have taken a backseat until I start selling some, my devil’s playthings have been eager to find something to take their place. Enter Crafty Cats. I started making Baloo (mog right) completely by accident one day, whilst messing around with scraps of an old jacket and remembered that I had bought some cat eyes for another project. I agree. he looks miserable, but don’t we all know cats like that? The type that gaze up at you like they haven’t been fed all week, but you slipped them a piece of cheese 20 minutes ago? Lol was my second and she was made as a gift for Paul. She is adorable and they sit between our computers at work.

Below is my latest and greatest, based on a real cat – Matt Damon (as owned and loved by my sweet pal Lee Parker). Lee is forever sending me lovely treats and I have been wanting to return the favour for a while, so here he is…

Have a Very Beret Christmas

Red Beret adoned by Kitten von Mew

Whilst recovering from my keyhole surgery, I decided to make something for myself for a change! I am a huge fan of berets, so took one out of my cupboard and set to work on decorating it. I have to say it was highly enjoyable and I was very pleased with the outcome! With pearl beads from a broken necklace and felt swallows, hearts and flowers, it has cheered up my headwear no end and looks great with my red coat! I will make some to sell if the prove popular!

Pincushion Corsages!

I have updated my Sew on and Sew Forth page with fabulous new images AND a new style! My Pincushion Corsages are the handiest pincushions for tailors and dress makers. Ideal for alterations at events, hemming dresses at home or in your shop, they are pretty and functional at the same time! The felt petals double up as needle book pages, whilst the centre of the flower is a pincushion with stamen dress pins included! The flower is attached to an elastic wrist strap and these corsages come in a wide variety of colourways including my special Coronation Corsage in red, white and blue!

At £15 each, these are 100% handmade, hand finished and great Christmas gifts. I will be selling them at vintage fair on 18th December and mail order by emailing kvm@email.com.

Star Wars Death Star Pin Cushion

Yes indeedy ladies and Jedi’s, you heard correctly. What did I sit there and sew all day yesterday? Possibly the most out of this world teacup pincushion in the galaxy. This glass cup and saucer holds by interpretation of the famous statue of ‘Atlas’ (man with the world on his back). My pin cushion features an original vintage R2D2 toy (worth £20 I may add!), holding up a Death Star pin cushion. Not only that, I have created a Tie Fighter on a pin too!

Sew On and Sew Forth!

I have just designed and ordered my business cards and a vinyl banner for my pincushion crafts. Hoping to get a stall at a Christmas fair, so this should help! Trying to collect as much felt, fabric and wool garments as I can to aid my new hobby in the winter months!
