Asylum Steampunk Festival – Part 2

As promised, here are some more of my photographs from this incredible Steampunk event. I was anchored to Lincoln Castle, so didn’t get so see other areas of the city in action, but my days were still full of wonder as you will now see. Sunday was a washout all day, but it certainly didn’t dampen our spirits. I even had people dancing in the rain whilst I was on stage! In regards to my outfit, I made the little plaid jacket, matching bag and hats (Bird Nest fascinator and Cheshire Cat mini topper). The bolt of fabric used (and on the little topper hat modeled by Betsy with the brolly) was the same used on Sherlock. My leather corset belt was custom made for me a few years ago, for the Steampunk Dr. Sketchy in Birmingham. I am thrilled to be able to wear it again! Betsy’s little fur is an original Victorian child’s capelette, whilst mine is original 1940’s.

Lincoln Steampunk Asylum 2018 – Part 1

Lincoln Steampunk Asylum 2018 – Part 1

This year I had the honour of being part of the world’s largest steampunk event! Taking place in areas within Lincoln city, I was based at Lincoln Castle. The setting was stunning, the people incredibly friendly and the outfits unbelievable. I am doing this in 2 parts as I have so many photos! I will also post some video when I have a bit of time too!

I was dressed in my Mary Coggins outfit on the first day (but forgot my flipping rocket pack! What a twit!!!), the second day was cold and rainy, so I wore a more subdued brown ensemble, whilst on the last day I donned my Haberdasher’s costume!

If you recognise yourself or friends in the photos then PLEASE get in touch so that I can title them correctly!

Stoneleigh Militaria 2018

What a lovely weekend! We managed to hire our first ever baby sitter (eek!) and head off to Woody at War’s 1940’s dance at Stoneleigh on the Saturday evening. We haven’t been to a dance since I was pregnant! The last time I went to this one was when Kieran at the USO Shows was running it, so I didn’t know what to expect. Woody had done an excellent job and had even set up a little USO stage for me to sing on! The place was packed and everyone looked wonderful.

On the Sunday it was time for the Stoneleigh Militaria Show. I was singing in the foyer at 1pm, so we had plenty of time to walk around the stalls! I had managed to do little victory rolls in Betsy’s hair and she looked ridiculously cute in her khaki jumpsuit and headscarf.

There were 3 really good clothing stalls at the show 2 in the main hall, 1 in the second) and I got a lovely bargain 50’s straw bag and a jacket to wear with my Heyday trousers. Richard got me a lovely wool suit for Valentine’s that I can’t wait to wear!

It was wonderful to see some familiar faces and new ones alike. Some people I hadn’t seen for so long, they didn’t realise that I now sing?! So many cuddles and greetings, lots of cooing over Queen B and her hair, lots of catching up and a great singing set. I always enjoy this show, I think many of us treat it as the ‘real’ new year in the 1940’s scene as it is the first event of the year for us! It seemed to be a lot busier this year too.

Art Fever UK Custom Blinds

Art Fever UK Custom Blinds

Well, I was hoping that by October, Betsy would have an awesome new bed and slight theme change in her bedroom.

Unfortunately it wasn’t to be, but I did get one thing done at least! Although she has blackout curtains, the early morning and late afternoon summer sunshine beamed through the top and sides at ridiculous-o-clock each day. I decided to get her some blackout blinds and fancied some with stars on. I just could find anything quite right! I didn’t want a pattern, but more the feeling of looking out at a magical night sky.

I luckily found Art Fever UK on Etsy. Located in Warwickshire, they have a super little workshop and a really friendly service. My messages were answered quickly and I decided to go and meet them and collect my order instead of waiting for the courier!

How great does this look? You can literally choose from thousands of stock images or use your own photos to get printed on custom blinds or canvases! The quality is fantastic and as they are made to measure, it was the perfect fit for Betsy’s window.

I had a wonderful time chatting in the office and meeting their two resident doggies. So flipping cute!

I can’t wait to get a different design for our bedroom now! If anyone else suffers with migraines, you’ll know how important a really dark room is and sometimes curtains just aren’t enough. So whether you are redecorating in the new year and want to theme a room or just want a decorative blackout blind for a better night’s sleep, I definitely recommend these guys!

You can find their website HERE.

Christmas Vintage Pinup!

I thought I would treat you to a fun little shoot I did in the snow on Saturday! A little bit of vintage pinup for the festive season. ‘Yule’ love it!

Wearing an original 1950’s gold lame swimsuit; originally used in a circus in LA, 1940’s rubber and fur over boots and a 1930’s fur muff with ruched silk on the back with a hidden purse pocket. The boots are wonderful as you just wear your own mid-heel shoes inside. They act as wellies to keep the rain, snow and mud off your footwear!

Contemporary Arts Fair in Stratford upon Avon

Today (04/11/17) we just nipped into this free Contemporary Arts Fair at the town hall, in Stratford upon Avon. It is well worth a visit if you are in the area. With free admission (which is very rare with anything nowadays), there’s jewellery, paintings, ceramics, leather, wood work and more.

Upstairs there were more vendors, but also a wonderful pop up tea shop serving yummy cakes, tea and coffee. They had the most beautiful gold tea sets and the cakes we sampled (chocolate and some Stollen) were really fresh.

My highlight was Becky Paton and her gorgeous mosaics. As well as the larger pieces to break hearts and bank accounts, there were more purse friendly items such as Christmas decorations, brooches and clips. I bought this wonderful dragonfly!

The show is open today and Sunday, with more info available HERE.

Personalised Fingerprint Pendants

Ever since the world of fingerprint jewellery took off, I've always loved the thought of having my own, especially when I had children. There is something so incredibly special about fingerprints. With every one's marking being totally unique, you never get 2 the same. Seeing hand and footprints on kid's paintings is such an amazing thing to look back on, so why not encapsulate that feeling in silver?

So after a lot of hinting that fell on deaf ears, I looked for some UK based jewellers that specialise in fingerprint pendants and found Liv and Lottie. After telling my husband what he would be getting me for my Birthday, I awaited the kit in the post! I wanted 3 fingerprints initially: Betsy, Mama and my sister, who lives all the way in Philadelphia. Luckily my parents were off for a visit, so I gave her part of the kit to them. You receive little clear pots, which was a blessing as they could safely store her imprint inside for travelling back to the UK!

The personalised necklace turned out beautifully as you can see! You can even personalise the front and back of the silver pendants with a name, initials, birthdate etc.

I am planning to get Richard, Pa and my fingerprints done near Christmas.

After being such a satisfied customer, I thought I would ask Liv and Lottie a few questions!

1.) What got you into jewellery making? How long have you been doing it?

I came across fingerprint jewellery when I was carrying my 2nd child and I decided to give it a go. I will always remember working with that first piece of silver clay and after a little practice I had created my very first beautiful silver charm with my eldest daughter’s fingerprint. I have been making fingerprint jewellery for just over 2 years now and I love creating each special print. It has also given me the freedom to work around my family.

2.) Why did you decide to create fingerprint jewellery? Why do you think it has become so popular?

I think I was drawn to the fingerprint jewellery especially because of its closeness with people and that feeling that you are creating a special memory in a keepsake for someone. I think fingerprint jewellery has become so popular now as its a great way for mothers wanting to capture there tiny ones prints and they also make a beautiful memorial piece.

3.) What has been your favourite or most memorable order/ project to do and why?

Its difficult to pin point a favourite piece it would probably be the first ones I created capturing my own children's prints, and they also symbolise the beginning of Liv And Lottie’s Little Charms so they will always be very special to me.

4.) Tell us a little about you!

Liv And Lottie’s Little Charms was created by Jodi Fusiara. The name was inspired by my two beautiful daughters and I have been creating personalised jewellery for over 2 years now.

We offer bespoke charms /pendants in fine silver for you with a finger, hand, footprint or a drawing as its centrepiece. A beautiful keepsake to cherish and keep forever.

Once you place your order within 1-2 working days you'll receive any easy to use kit with little pots, to capture your prints. When your prints are received back, I'll then transform them into a beautiful custom made pieces of fine silver jewellery.

You can email Jodi at livandlottie@outlook.com or visit the Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/livandlottie/

Miss Bamboo Clothing

miss bamboo sailor dress

I seem to have a real love for nautical themed clothing at the moment! Having hankered after another sailor dress and being unimpressed about the quality and fit of various ones I’ve found, I thought I would give Miss Bamboo a go.

Boy am I glad I did! The fit is great and I have not only gone to the beach in this, but have done gardening and plan to wear it to an event too! Made in the UK and based on an original 40’s version found in Life Magazine, it has been lovingly recreated for today’s figures. Machine washable and featuring a matching belt, I just wish it came in the white version too…but I wouldn’t be gardening in it…

So check out her website, it even features some great men’s Hawaiian shirts too! You can also find Miss Bamboo on Facebook.

Pompadour Roll Hair Tutorial

I thought after my last post that I’d do a quick video to show you how to do the front roll. As you can see, it only took a few minutes and that was with Betsy charging about! I have also incorporated some super-quick victory rolls in the second half, but I have a video dedicated to these on YouTube.

Apologies for it being in 2 halves, someone tried to call me half way through and it stops the video.
