Bride of Frankenstein Photoshoot with Neil Kendall

Bride of Frankenstein Photoshoot with Neil Kendall

Yet again, I had the pleasure of having a fantastically spooky photoshoot with the incomparable Neil Nez Kendall! I just LOVE his Halloween sets and as soon as I heard that he had a Bride of Frankenstein wig for hire this time, I leapt at the chance. Bethany Jane Davies yet again did an outstanding job on my makeup and I always know I can count on her for vintage vamp fabulousness!

I have always had a huge love and fascination of the Bride of Frankenstein. She is such an iconic figure, yet only appeared in the movie for 3 minutes! Elsa Lanchester played the part so beautifully and had more than her lines to concentrate on… Her bandages were so tight that she could not move her fingers and arms properly, so someone had to feed and water her when required. Elsa was also required to walk on stilts, making her 7 feet tall! Of course, there was also her fantastic hair (inspired by Nefertiti’s headdress), which had a wire cage construction in order to gain the height needed! Lanchester always said that her own hair was used for the movie, yet if this really was the case, the original Bride of Frankenstein wig displayed in exhibitions may have possibly been worn by her body double. I personally doubt that she had her hair done every day of shooting.

Apparently Lanchester’s body double found the costume so claustrophobic, she became incredibly distressed with her role, where as Elsa took it all in her stride!

So I hope you enjoy what Neil and I have created. He is fantastic at classic Hollywood lighting techniques as you can see. I decided on 2 looks and created some stitches using my trusty hot glue gun! I love how the corseted images came out as everything was literally thrown together. The textures work so well against each other and it shows of me glue gun stitches (sewn onto tights) beautifully! The second look was more classic with a long cotton nightdress to give a more romantic, vintage look. Im absolutely thrilled with the end results.

Upcoming Year

It has been quite a while since I last wrote on my blog…well, a while for me considering the verbal waterfall that usually sploshed it’s way over these pages.

This year has somewhat crept up on me. I knew it was coming; it happened to warn me of its existence thanks to a 2012 page at the back of my diary, so I should have known really.

I am excited, daunted, refreshed and cynical all at the same time. I cannot wait for our wedding and honeymoon, the planning of which has helped me through some very tough times, but then you get the financial worries that rear their ugly heads, even with budget weddings such as ours. In fact, the wedding isn’t the issue, it is the honeymoon! After such a financial struggle all year and cutting corners on wedding expenses with ‘make do and mend’ creative thinking, we wanted to be able to let our hair down on a honeymoon that we felt we deserved. All great on paper, but when the phone number you thought was on the bottom of the invoice is in fact the price of your holiday,  it starts to dawn on you that even the best laid plans and saving as much as we can each month may just lead to a long weekend in Bognor Regis.

I have also managed to fill up every weekend in May with performance bookings and considering we are getting married on the 2nd June, I should have possibly left more time for decorating the venue and organising!

Other excitements for the year…Well there is The Berliner of course, which along with the Halloween version will be a great highlight of this year. Who can imagine singing 1940’s songs on a military steam train to Berlin, followed by a performance for the mayor and press and a visit to WWII bunkers?

Of course my dear, faithful War and Peace Show is in July and I have an idea of a new little act I may do there this year. I can’t wait to catch up with friends and see what new dioramas the groups have come up with this year.

My local Wartime in the Vale weekender will be my 1st event as a married woman AND my Birthday on the Saturday! I am hoping to catch up with local wedding guests as well as enjoy performing at this lovely event!

A rookie at Twinwood, my first taster of this famous event was only last August bank holiday, where I performed in 2 of the small clubs in the evening. After a fantastic response I am back in 2012 for another stint in Glenn Miller’s haunt…

The glamour of Goodwood Revival calls once more in September as I get to squeeze the near life out of my 2 fabulous girls Sue and Milly and wave at famous racing drivers like I know them. This year I will NOT overuse my voice and end up with Laryngitis again!

Escape to Victory – Kitten von Mew at Colchester Stadium

On Sunday I entertained the crowds at Colchester Football Stadium at a British Legion event! The stadium played host to a recreation of the football game from Michael Caine’s classic Escape To Victory between the Nazi soldiers and POW’s. Before the match I sang some 1940’s classics before doing my family friendly RAF Fancy Fan Dance outside the grounds. Then at half time I sang 3 songs (see the video above) for the crowd. This was the first time I had sung in a stadium and it was very strange hearing my voice echoing around the place!

Although very tired from a stupidly bad nights sleep at a rather awful B&B, Richard and I had a lovely time and hope that the British Legion raised heaps of money at the event!

Taxi for Mr. Mew!

Hello world!

I thought this would be a wonderful opportunity to post things that aren’t relevant on my main website.

I will be posting things such as holidays, my hobbies and Gracie Wheels, my beloved caravan! You can also read about wedding plans and more!

Please be a little patient whilst I find my feet in Blogsville, I think I held the map upside down all the way here…
